"The Earth: Problems and Perspectives" is intended for use as a practical text and laboratory manual to assist undergraduate students in their learning of the methods and principles of geology and understanding of the earth. It also aims to educate students in the methods and philosophy of science. In this manual, students are introduced to the basic concepts of geology and the working methods and philosophy of the geologist. Each exercise contained within the book discusses an important topic in geology and illustrates the topic with photographs, maps, charts, or tables that are to be used to solve geologic problems. The manual is divided into five parts, each of which is relatively independent of the other. Each part contains a comprehensive bibliography, and key illustrations, tables, a glossary, coloured photographs of rock and mineral samples and coloured maps are contained within the appendices.
