Strengthening Local Government Engagement in the Greater Mekong Subregion

Outlining a strategy designed to boost local government participation in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation program, this report presents practical implications and offers recommendations to help drive a more sustainable future. The report explains how the GMS Economic Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030, endorsed by the GMS leaders, builds upon the program's focus on connectivity and project-led development. It details how to utilize the existing GMS Economic Corridors Forum and the Governors' Forum effectively to boost local government engagement. It recommends piloting smaller sub-corridor forums, better engaging cities, and boosting local government capacity to better tackle regional development challenges.
