Of the several thousand plantations existing in Louisiana before the Civil War, a thousand or so remain: marvellous examples of Greek Revival and other neo-classical styles of architecture. Each of the 35 homes in this book has its own place in history. Noted New Orleans writer and artist Joe Arrigo tells the unique story of each home, its characters, and the ostentatious life-style of its owners. Stunning colour photographs by Dick Dietrich illustrate the exteriors, gardens, and interiors of these magnificent homes, while Joe Arrigo's pen and ink drawings accent significant architectural details in each home.
