Local Government and Housing Act, 1989

The full text of the new legislation is reproduced with an accompanying commentary to assist the reader in understanding the complex provisions. The "Local Government and Housing Act 1989" brings about the following changes: local government business is reformed, the appointment of local authority staff is regulated and restrictions are placed on the authority's political activities; a new system is introduced to govern local authority capital finance; and a statutory framework is provided for local authority interests in companies.
