This is the story of the Ulster Workers' Council strike which paralysed Northern Ireland in May 1974 and brought about the downfall of the power-sharing executive. As well as telling the story of how the strike was organized and run, the book looks at the extent to which it was supported voluntarily or through paramilitary coercion and also at the response of the British government and army.
