This book of poetry was a relatively natural process because it combines writings from over the span of ten years, starting from when the author was a teenager. Emily Ahmed became more serious about compiling and writing this book when she was in a mental health crisis and needed to try and make sense of herself and her life. She wrote it to show that stories, no matter how big or small, are life-saving, and we make them into myths for ourselves to repeat well into adulthood when we need guidance or empathy, for ourselves or others.
