It's a rainy day in Manchester and Gloria's worst birthday ever when a gramophone arrives from Great Aunt Lariss in Jamaica. The strains of an old 78 jazz record transport Gloria to Harlem in the 1920s. Gloria becomes a dancer and has many adventures in the black community there.
