This textbook focuses on and integrates the three main areas of construction management, construction project management, construction production management and construction business management. Special synergies are targeted by bringing these three areas under one inter-locking umbrella. Forty-four concise chapters, packed with industry examples and case studies, deliver the 'essentials in each sub-theme, with each chapter readable in one student 'sitting'. Carefully selected topics cover essential knowledge and skills, bringing industry to the 'classroom'; including rarely addressed topics such as construction logic and strategy, insurances, bonds and guarantees, legal issues in procurement, bidding strategies, writing winning proposals, short-term look ahead plans, , waste management, value-stream mapping techniques, construction culture, ethics and professionalism.
Additionally, the book provides fresh insights on how to manage construction projects from concept to completion, whether working for clients, contractors and subcontractors, or consultants. The authors draw on their experiences in running contracting and consultancy firms, and their extensive teaching and research.
The book will be particularly useful for final year undergraduate students and graduate students studying engineering, construction, architecture or quantity surveying in general, as well as for practitioners in construction engineering and construction management in particular. In addition to covering the basics, this book distils and delivers 'learnable packets' on key topics, and highlights new trends to help progressive managers develop special insights on the management of construction projects, through the lenses of not just 'project management' but also 'production management' and business management', thereby providing a unique unifying overview.
