Reading for Information: Blue

The overall general aim of this tape is to teach and develop information handling skills within meaningful, curriculum-related contexts at Key Stage 2 (Scottish Levels B/C/D), through a shared group reading environment and using books children are likely to encounter in the classroom. In particular, their aim is to enable children to: locate relevant information; perceive the differences between fiction and non-fiction; develop active reading strategies in order to use information books purposefully and flexibly; extract essential information; reformulate information in order to internalize it; communicate, share and present their findings; develop criteria for evaluating information texts; widen vocabulary; become aware of different genres in information texts; become interested in a variety of topics through their reading for information; introduce the pleasures of reading non-fiction using a shared reading environment.
