Tracy Edwards was born in 1962. Brought up in Berkshire and the Gower Peninsula in Wales, her first brief experience of sailing as a young girlwas with her father before he died. She was not to discover sailing again until the age of 16 when she ran away from home. Based in Athens she spent five years delivering and working on charter yachts around the world. It introduced her to an important friend and supporter - King Hussein - who was to play a key role when Tracy began in competitive sailing. At 23 she set about raising the GBP1.5 million she needed to compete in the Whitbread Round-the-World Cup. She then found the boat, Maiden, and assembled the all-women crew that would take her to a unique victory in 1989. She returned to sailing to take on the Jules Verne Trophy in 1998. Sadly, this dramatic attempt to break the record for circumnavigating the world failed. Abandoing a further attempt on it, Tracy is now mother to Mackenna as well as running TEAM, a highly successful motivation company, from her home in Berkshire.
