Cardiovascular Disease results in nearly a million deaths each year in the United States. Despite advances in medical treatment and changes in personal lifestyles, sudden cardiac death is a frequently encountered medical emergency. More than half of these deaths occur outside of the hospital, usually within two hours of the first symptoms. To provide effective care to these patients, it is important to that care givers understand the concepts, essential actions and critical skills for patient management. The current ACLS educational philosophy is to provide a case-based learning environment where core information, such as airway management, rhythm interpretation, defibrillation, and pharmacology are combined together in a scenario format. The objective is to make this material more applicable to real life clinical situations students of ACLS will encounter.
