This new book analyzes and appraises the very complicated interlocking set of contracts which make up the JCT Management Contract 1987. The construction industry has been much in need of a set of contracts which command general respect from all parties to a management contract. Preliminary indications suggest that the new JCT documents are likely to achieve such respect. The contracts are therefore of considerable importance to an industry which is moving steadily in the direction of this particular form of contracting, especially for complicated and difficult projects. Drawing upon the wealth of experience of an established team of construction lawyers at Rowe & Maw, the book endeavours to show how the legal machinery operates, pointing out the difficult, sometimes possibly defective, areas in the contracts which require the consideration of those who operate them. It is not, however, intended only for lawyers. Practitioners in other fields of whatever discipline, will find this to be both a valuable and a reliable guide. The looseleaf format enables both the text of the JCT contract, and the analysis, to be updated when amendments are issued.
Amendments have already been issued including the new VAT Amendment of April 1989. This provides the reader with the current, as well as earlier unamended, versions of the contracts.
