Byeong Gi Lee received a Ph.D. degree from UCLA, and worked for Granger Associates and AT&T Bell Laboratories before joining the faculty of Seoul National University in Korea, where he served as the Vice Chancellor for Research Affairs and the Director of the Institute of New Media and Communications. He served as the President of the Korea Institute of Communication and Information Sciences (KICS), as a Commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), as the President of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), and a member of Board of Director of Samsung Electronics. He published seven books in English including Broadband Telecom Technology. He received several awards including the 1984 Myril B. Reed Best Paper Award, the 2001 National Academy of Science of Korea Award, the 2005 Kyung-am Award, the Order of Service Merit with Yellow Stripe from Korean Government in 2012, and the 2013 Donald W. McLellan Meritorious Service Award and the 2017 IEEE/KICS Exemplary Global Service Award from the IEEE. He is a Professor Emeritus of SNU, a member of National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Korea, a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) of Korea, a Member of Sigma Xi, and a Fellow of the IEEE.

Daher ist eine PDF auch für ein komplexes Layout geeignet, wie es bei Lehr- und Fachbüchern verwendet wird (Bilder, Tabellen, Spalten, Fußnoten). Bei kleinen Displays von E-Readern oder Smartphones sind PDF leider eher nervig, weil zu viel Scrollen notwendig ist. Mit Wasserzeichen-DRM wird hier ein „weicher” Kopierschutz verwendet. Daher ist technisch zwar alles möglich – sogar eine unzulässige Weitergabe. Aber an sichtbaren und unsichtbaren Stellen wird der Käufer des E-Books als Wasserzeichen hinterlegt, sodass im Falle eines Missbrauchs die Spur zurückverfolgt werden kann.
