As an adult, after falling in love with a Hoosier, Nellotie moved to Mitchell, Indiana. Astronaut Gus Grissom, close in age to Nellotie's husband, was born and reared in Mitchell. Later, Gus became a vital person in the space program before his untimely death. Always interested in geography, Nellotie Chastain researched numerous places in the United States. Especially, during the active time of the space program.
