This study describes the theory, apparatus, performance and applications of the modern techniques for trace element determination: atomic absorption emission and fluoresence spectrometry, mass spectroscopy and X-ray methods, and activation analysis. Attention is also paid to sample preparation, current calibration procedures and methods for trace element specification. No previous knowledge of instrumental analytical chemistry is required.
