The Author: Irma Sorvali is professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Oulu, Finland. She completed her doctoral thesis in 1974 on the Swedish translations of Virgil's Aeneid and Bucolica, and has since written numerous books and articles on the theory and practice of translation. She has lectured on translation studies at many universities in Finland and Scandinavia and has directed the work of students of translating and interpreting.
