Chenard and Walcker-Far

An illustrated history of one of France's legendary automobile manufacturers. The first car was built in 1901 under the partnership of Ernest Chenard and Henri Walcker. Great tourers and stylish saloons in the 1920s were accompanied by achievements in motor racing success which included winning the very first 24-hour race at Le Mans in 1923. The company also produced a range of light and heavy commercial vehicles for the agricultural, freight and military markets. Although car production ended in 1950, commercial vehicles continued to appear under the FAR name until 1978. The text features photographic coverage of the golden days of road racing between the wars; photographic coverage of working vehicles between the wars and post-war; and a section on the company's military production between the wars, including staff cars, half-tracks and tractor units.
