This atlas presents an up-to-date description of the oral problems related to HIV infection, and thus provides the clinician with a useful tool for early diagnosis, as the oral cavity is often the site of the first signs of HIV infection. The book presents a new approach to illustrating the oral manifestations of HIV infection, as the atlas uses the latest edition of the European Union classification, which is also accepted by the World Health Organization. Thus, the atlas discusses oral manifestations under three major headings: lesions that are frequent in connection with HIV infection; lesions that are less common in HIV-infected individuals; and lesions that are rarely associated with HIV infection. Most of the lesions in these groups are discussed in the atlas. Of prime importance are the carefully-selected illustrations, mostly taken with a Hasselblad camera, which appear on the right-hand pages. On the left-hand pages, all the lesions illustrated are described with regard to clinical features and treatment. As an introduction, the epidemiology of AIDS is described from a global point of view on the most recent figures from WHO.
The book should be of interest to: dental and medical practitioners; ear, nose and throat specialists; dermatologists; and dental hygienists.
