Presenting a functional view of the frontal lobes, this book argues that the frontal lobes are specialized for directing voluntary action. It considers each of the areas within the frontal lobes, and suggests what contribution they make and how the areas interact. Analysis is based on R. Passingham's work on monkeys and humans, including the use of the most modern imaging techniques. Overall, it provides a "flow diagram" of the operations of the frontal lobes, and should serve as a basis for future work and debate on the subject.
