This is the history of the first 30 years of space exploration. All the planets (except Pluto, the furthest) have been visited by space probes now, ending with the pass of Neptune by Voyager 2 in August 1989. The author is presenter of BBC TV's "The Sky at Night", and has witnessed most of the planetary encounters and knows most of the people involved.
