This text is designed to provide graduate students and postgraduate researchers working in different areas of computational mathematical theory with the necessary theoretical and practical background of the Green's functions method. It shows how the method can be used in various situations. The text contains a subset of the author's work on the development of the technique for constructing Green's functions and matrices for elliptic boundary value problems. There is also a description of several applications of the Green's functions method in computational mechanics. Much of the material included in this study has previously been published in Russian journals and books.
