Beschreibung
This book provides practical information on the management of high risk patients presenting for surgery as well as sufficient background information to enable an understanding of the principles and rationale behind their anaesthetic management. The content reflects the needs of a broad readership and presents information not readily available in similar books (e.g. a summary of all CEPOD reports, perioperative renal failure, the role of the cardiology consult and indications for admission to ICU and HDU). The format of each chapter is designed to provide rapid access to important information, with key facts and advice presented concisely. Important references that highlight controversies within a subject, and suggestions for useful further reading are also presented. The book will be useful not only as an 'aide memoire' for the FRCA and other examinations in anaesthesia but also as a useful quick reference for all operating theatre, ICU, CCU and HDU-based personnel.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
The book is aimed at a wide readership of anaesthetists (both trainees and consultants), surgeons and intensivists who may be involved in the management of the high-risk patient. The book aims to provide practical advice on the management of such patients presenting for surgery. It is supported by background information and references to enable the reader to understand the evidence base behind the advice on the assessment, anaesthetic and perioperative management of these patients.' This book examines the concept of risk in the patient undergoing anaesthesia, and patient at risk during anaesthesia. Each chapter is written by experienced anaesthetists and looks at the management of patients who are a challenge to the anaesthetic team. Chapters include respiratory risk and complaints; lessons learned form the National Confidential Enquiry into Preoperative Deaths; vascular heart disease, as well as these chapters the meaning of risk is discussed and the Epidemiology and identification of the high-risk surgical patient. Each chapter is followed by a comprehensive reference list. I found this was an n interesting and informative text, which I know I will use regularly. It is very readable and gives the reader insight into decisions that may be made with high-risk patients. Although aimed at junior anaesthetic it will be an interesting text for anaesthetic nurses and operating department practitionersWeitere Details
