The issue of ethics within the computer industry and on computing courses is growing in importance and interest. This text aims to equip the reader with an understanding of the ethical issues in the computing field and the tools necessary to facilitate the resolution of ethical problems. The book adopts a practical approach, and although it touches on ethical theories, it is more interested in presenting case studies and concentrating throughout on practical rather than theoretical issues. The book presents the "official line" in computer ethics, including both the BCS and ACM codes and a statement by the Director General of the Institute of Analysts and Programmers.
