: The conference was intended to provide a forum for the exchange of information between experts in electro-optic methods and applications-orientated engineers involved in process control, assembly operations, testing and quality assurance. Electro-optic methods can be used to rapidly, accurately and nonintrusively measure many important physical and chemical properties. Product quality and production efficiency are increasingly becoming the key sources of industrial competitiveness; electro-optic sensing methods are playing crucial roles in the control of processes ranging from automobile and aircraft assembly to chemical refining and advanced material processing.
