This text describes an implementation of artificial intelligence techniques such as non-monotonic reasoning and knowledge-based-techniques as encountered in structural design. A conceptual model for integrated structural design is presented which suggests a number of enhancements to the models proposed by earlier researchers. It provides a practical study of the applications of some of the state-of-the-art tools and techniques to various stages of structural design.
