This volume contains the proceedings of the 5th International Congress of Invertebrate Reproduction, held in Nagaya, Japan from 23-28 July 1989. The congress had five main themes: asexual reproduction; gametogenesis, fertilization and development; regulation, endocrine control and environmental adaptation; population dynamics and reproductive strategies; manipulation and artificial control. The program consisted of 3 opening lectures, 98 invited papers, 340 contributed papers and 9 films (of which abstracts were published). The papers covered areas ranging from molecular biology to environmental biology and basic and applied research. Most of the invited papers are included in this volume.
