The Nurse's Code

This book presents a basic explantion of the procedures the law prescribes for the profession's regulatory body to deal with allegations of misconduct against nurses, midwives and health visitors and presents the case studies in collective form for the convenience of those who choose to use them for individual study or shared discussion. The code is specific in its themes of guidance, yet couched in general terms, simply because these must be interpreted in the context of prevailing circumstances. The case study stories are based on the skeleton facts derived from actual cases appearing before the professional conduct committee, with fictional details to set the scene and intensify the dramatization. This is designed to make it easier for readers to envisage the circumstances of the situation, to empathize and to try their hand at peer judgement. The stories can be useful learning aid, either individually or for groups, and "think points" are added to suggest relevant discussion areas. Additional chapters aim to provide wider explanations about the organization surrounding the subject of the book, as well as the personal experiences of people who have been involved.
