This text re-examines the topics of population change, inflation, agriculture, industry, overseas trade, elite society, poverty and elite culture, in the light of recent interpretations and research. Newer topics, such as internal trade, London and urbanization, the lower orders and popular culture are also incorporated to broaden the perspective.
