Two of the most important events in the life of Mary Queen of Scots took place on the same day of the year - 29th July. On that day in 1565 Mary married Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, and on that day in 1567 she abdicated and her son was crowned. The dramatic two years between these dates provides the framework for this book. It is a period of high excitement and powerful personalities, in which many facts have long been disputed. This book provides a representation of the events of 24 months at Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh, where there were two marriages and two murders amongst the four main residents.
