Early Responses to Hume's "History of England"

This work is part of the "Early Responses to Hume" series. Collecting hundreds of 18th- and 19th-century critical publications on Hume's philosophical, literary, political, economic and historical writings, the text includes book extracts, reviews and critical pamphlets. Many of the volumes' sections have not been reprinted since their original publications into English. They should be a useful reference source for scholars across a range of disciplines. Volumes Seven and Eight contain responses to all volumes of Hume's "History". Topics include Hume's religious attacks in the "History", Hume's charge that Protestant reformers were fanatical, Hume's sympathetic portrayal of Charles I, comparison of Hume's "History" with Robertson's, and whether Hume plagiarized Carte's "History".
