The contents of this book are based on lectures given for a course entitled "Engineering Simulation of Intelligence", taught at the Moscow Institute of Radio, Electronics and Automation to students specializing in robotic systems. The scope of research in the area of artificial intelligence is characterized not only by a diversity of themes, but also by its range: from the strictly abstract to engineering. This book does not set out to embrace the entire area of AI, but instead presents the fundamentals relating to robotics and automated manufacturing. It presents introductory information on the concept of artificial intelligence systems, general information concerning models, networks, linguistic knowledge, methods of problem presentation, and communication systems. It is designed for students and academics in the field of artificial inteligence, flexible manufacturing and computer science.
