Oluwatoyin Doherty read Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981. She started her academic career in the same year at the Nigerian Law School. She has taught several subjects including, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedures and Law Office Management. She was Head of the Department of Litigation at the Law School from 1994 to 1995. She has been a visiting lecturer at the Nigerian institute of Advanced Legal Studies since 1991, where she teaches Criminal Procedure. She is the author of Criminal Procedure in Nigeria: Law and Practice .
