Children that are exploited in child pornography are automatically exposed to abuse, as it is rare that simple naked photographs are taken, and child pornography is often associated with so-called 'sex rings'. This book has two aims. The first is to establish a general profile of the sort of children that are exploited in child pornography- what was the child's relationship with the perpetrator? How did they become involved? Why did their participation continue? How did the child feel before the abuse, while it was taking place, at the time of the inquiry?
The book also looks in detail at how children describe something that is known to have taken place. By matching confiscated materials with the children involved in its production the authors look at how the children describe the events and how they react and feel when faced with the questions, factual information, and the pictures themselves- it is found to differ significantly from situations in which the material is absent.
Important questions are raised about how children involved in pornography can be helped, and suggestions made for further research.
