Aesthetics and Religion in Nineteenth-Century Britain

This six-volume set examines the relationship between aesthetics and religion in 19th-century Britain. This subject has long been of interest to students of Victorian and Romantic thought. Until now John Ruskin was the writer most frequently cited by contemporary critics in connection with this topic. This collection aims to draw attention to the intellectual hinterland of Ruskinian aesthetics; writers who were his contemporaries and were responding to the same intellectual and social trends.
