Caelii Aureliani operum omnium quae exstant Concordantiae

Caelius Aurelianus ist lange verkannt geblieben und hat bei den Philologen nicht das Interesse gefunden, das er verdient hätte; denn seine Werke Akute Krankheiten und Chronische Krankheiten bilden neben dem Gesamtwerk des Celsus, Hippokrates und Galen einen der Pfeiler der antiken medizinischen Literatur. Beide Werke sind nicht nur im Hinblick auf die Geschichte der pathologischen und therapeutischen Lehren der Antike bedeutsam, sondern sie stellen auch ein Hauptzeugnis für das Gedankengut der methodischen Schule dar. Um einen Gesamtüberblick über das Vokabular des Caelius Aurelianus zu geben, sind auch zwei andere Fragmente, die ihm zugeschrieben werden, nämlich die Medicinales Responsiones und die Gynaecia für die Konkordanz berücksichtigt worden. Die Konkordanz ist lemmatisiert, die verschiedenen Wortformen werden jeweils unter einem Lemma zusammengefasst. Die vorliegende Konkordanz wird es ermöglichen, die Eigenschaften des Vokabulars des Caelius Aurelianus besser kennenzulernen und seinen Beitrag zur lateinischen medizinischen Sprache genauer abzuschätzen.

Caelius Aurelianus has largely been neglected by philologists and his work has not received the attention that it deserves. Indeed, his two treatises Acute Illnesses and Chronic Illnesses are central to classical medical literature, along with the works of Celsus, Hippocrates and Galen. Caelius Aurelianus's work is not only important for a better understanding of the historical development of the pathological and therapeutic doctrines in Antiquity, but also a key account of the methodic school of thought. In order to give a comprehensive overview of Caelius's lexicon, two other fragments attributed to the author, namely the Medicinales Responsiones and the Gynaecia, have been included in the concordance. The concordance is presented in a lemmatised form, the various forms of words have been grouped under their generic forms so as to provide scholars with a new research tool. It may hopefully prove useful to future studies of the characteristics of Caelius Aurelianus's language and style, and to a fuller understanding of the author's contribution to Latin medical language.
