Description
Tourism is increasingly widespread and complex, and sophisticated and adaptive management is therefore required to realise its full potential as a positive and sustainable economic, ecological, social and cultural force. This textbook gives students an introductory exposure to tourism that provides a foundation for further informed engagement with the sector, first in the remainder of their tertiary studies and then in their capacity as managers.
This fourth edition has been updated with recent industry and research developments and retains the thoroughness of content and application that had been established in the previous editions.
The twelve chapters in this book have been carefully arranged so that together they constitute a logical and sequential introductory tourism management subject that can be delivered over the course of a normal university semester.
About the Authors:
Dr. David Weaver is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of nine books and over 100 journal articles and book chapters in the areas of tourism management, ecotourism, sustainable tourism and destination life cycles. He is also the editor of the Encyclopedia of Ecotourism, and sits on the Editorial Boards of eight international, refereed tourism journals.
Dr. Laura Lawton is the author or co-author of over 40 journal articles, book chapters, and government reports in several areas, including, social impacts, tourist attractions, event management, and environmental issues relating to tourism, including ecotourism. She served as the Editor-and-Chief for 'Tourism Review International', an international refereed journal for five years. She now serves on the Editorial Boards of three international, refereed tourism journals. Both authors have experience in teaching and researching tourism in Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and the USA.
