Since 1989, Dan has been the organiser of the British Open Tai Chi Championships. He is Chairman of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain. He regularly contributes to martial arts publications and is the author of the recently published Tai Chi Bible (Godsfield, Feb 2014), Tai Chi Chuan and Complete Tai Chi Chuan.
Dan learned Tai Chi Chuan while serving as an Inspector in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force between 1975 and 1984. In 1980 he won the Open Weight Division at the fifth South-east Asian Chinese Pugilistic Championships in Malaysia. He is an LLB graduate from Glasgow University and holds a postgraduate CNAA diploma in Chinese. He regularly travels to the Far East, especially to China, for research.
