Description
A state-of-the-art exploration of the foundations and latest developments in biomedical imaging technology
In the newly revised second edition of Introduction to Biomedical Imaging, distinguished researcher Dr. Andrew Webb delivers a comprehensive discussion of the fundamentals and applications of the four primary medical imaging techniques: x-ray and computed tomography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging. Each chapter explains the physical principles, instrument design, data acquisition, image reconstruction, and clinical applications of its respective modality, incorporating explorations of the latest technologies and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-enabled image processing algorithms.
This latest edition also offers descriptions of multi-slice spiral CT, PET-CT, and PET-MRI scanners, 4D ultrasound, phased-array MRI technology, and iterative and model-based image reconstruction techniques. Finally, a complete appendix presents detailed descriptions of the mathematics underlying the most advanced image processing algorithms.
Readers will also find:
A thorough introduction to general image characteristics, including discussions of signal-to-noise and contrast-to-noise ratios
Comprehensive explorations of planar x-ray imaging and computed tomography, including discussions of common interactions between x-rays and tissues
Fulsome examinations of nuclear medicine, including discussions of the properties of radiotracers used in nuclear medicine
In-depth treatments of ultrasonic imaging, including wave propagation, absorption, and scattering
Complete presentations of magnetic resonance imaging technology and techniques
Perfect for graduate and senior undergraduate students of biomedical engineering, Introduction to Biomedical Imaging, 2nd Edition will also earn a place in the libraries of medical imaging professionals with an interest in the four primary medical imaging techniques.
