Food is an essential commodity throughout the world, yet the production and provision of food materials is a complex and often difficult process, involving the efforts of, and providing a livelihood for, huge numbers of people. This text aims to unravel the mysteries of the food system that provides us with all the variety of foods we enjoy, from local produce to imports from far countries, such as coffee, tea and tropical fruits.
