Person
Martin Cheek graduated in graphic design in 1981, specializing in illustration and puppet design and going on to set up his own film production company. Over the years, he became increasingly interested in the decorative arts, especially mosaic. With his patient eye for detail and ability to create animated sequences, his mosaic work now benefits from this earlier experience - it is clear that character and movement play an important part in his work. He has taught part-time at the Royal College of Art and was for a time art critic of a national newspaper. Now an acclaimed professional mosaic artist, he is regularly commissioned by both private and corporate clients and has had many one-man exhibitions. He runs weekend courses in mosaic. His first book, Mosaics in a Weekend, is also published by New Holland.
