For use with children at third- and fourth-grade reading levels, this intensive, activity-based vocabulary intervention program is the key to improving literacy outcomes and enhancing the oral language skills of struggling students who use African American Vernacular English (AAVE). Focused on strengthening students' vocabulary - and increasing their fluency and comprehension - these two 20-week programs of targeted 30-minute lessons: apply research-based principles of good vocabulary instruction; include all interventions and lesson plans teachers need; integrate easily into the school day; include evidence of effectiveness; sequence lessons, so words get more complex as students make progress; motivate children with varied and engaging lessons; and, use popular fiction and non-fiction books* featuring African American characters and historical figures.The curriculum for each reading level includes a Teacher's Manual with explicit instructions, scripted guidelines, and answer keys for conducting each lesson, and Student Workbooks of lively in-class activities and homework activities.
