Description
This textbook is a comprehensive introduction to structural steelwork design based on the limit states approach to BS 5950, for use by undergraduates in civil and structural engineering. It will also serve as a reference for practising engineers unfamiliar with new parts of BS 5950.
The text introduces basic properties of steel, types of steel structure and steelwork design in order to develop an understanding of the various aspects of the behaviour and design of structural steelwork.
This edition has been thoroughly revised in accordance with the 2000 amendment to Part 1 of BS 5950 - all references have been updated and a new section on partial encasement for fire resistance has been added. Each chapter features worked examples, practice problems and references.
