The 21st Century Girls

Collins Soundbites is a revolutionary series of readers for 11-14 year olds with poor literacy skills. 21st Century Girls has a reading age of 6-7 and around 30 words per page. It tells how one girl band tried to make it big and goes on to introduce students to some basic Media Studies concepts. This pack contains six copies of 21st Century Girls.


Soundbites is a graded series of readers aimed at reluctant readers in Key Stage 3, with accompanying teaching resources.


Soundbites has three progressive stages of readers. 21st Century Girls is a stage 1 title with a reading age 6-7) and around 30 words per page. Six different level 1 books are available in a pack (000323083X).


The book includes narrative-style text covering the rise of a real-life girl band, as well as basic Media Studies concepts.


A variety of text types are used, such as autobiographies, biographies, journals, diaries, letters (personal and formal), travel writing, leaflets, reports, reviews, adverts, newspaper/magazine articles, tables.


Specialised, difficult or technical vocabulary is explained on the page, plus a one-page glossary at the end.


The topics covered address the KS3 English/Media curricula.
