Berkeley began his musical training at the Royal Academy of Music and with Richard Rodney Bennett. Since winning the Guinness Prize for Composition in 1977, his music has been played all over the globe and by some of the world's finest musicians.
Berkeley's compositional output covers a wide range of genres from solo instrumental to opera; he has enjoyed the role of Associate Composer to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales and work has been commissioned and premiered by the BBC Proms, the Cheltenham Festival, Music Theatre Wales.
