Before the Road - Version for 4 Clarinets

Suitable for 4 clarinets, this piece features eleven movements that were written in preparation for Barry's orchestral piece "The Road" (1997). It refers to an image from childhood of sun with high wind on a remote road. The contrast within sections and between movements is coloured by the instruments in this version.
