Description
Proteinases - enzymes that cleave proteins at specific sites - are important tools for studying protein and poly peptide structures. Due to the specific cleavage characteristics proteinases are the "restriction enzymes" in protein analysis, e.g. especially powerful tools for sequencing and mapping of proteins and polypeptides and for protein engineering.
LYSIS
contains data and bibliographic citations of more than 280 endopeptidases and on the resulting cleavage sites in more than 1000 peptides and proteins. Included are the sources, latest nomenclature, inhibitors of endopeptidases and information on how to modify proteins to improve cleavage specificity. By usage of the main program
Digest
the following tasks can be addressed: - Listing of all proteins or peptides degraded by a given proteinase; - Listing of all proteinases cited to work on a given protein; - Information on atypical cleavages; - Influence of subsites on the cleavage; - Statistical approach to cleavage probability; - Estimation of the extent of a binding site; - Search for particular resistant or labile bonds.
