Gerhard Ertl studied chemistry in Stuttgart, Munich and Paris and received his PhD from the Technical University of Munich. He worked as a Professor in Stuttgart and later as a visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology, the University of Wisconsin, Milawaukee and the University of California, Berkeley. Today he is Director of the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute, Berlin. Prof. Ertl received innumerable awards and honors and is author of various books. Helmut Knozinger studied physics at the University of Munich where he received his PhD in physical Chemistry. Currently he works as a professor at the University of Munich. His research interests are in the fields of surface spectroscopy, surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. Professor Knotzinger is co editor of numerous books and member of several editorial boards. Ferdi Schuth studied chemistry and law in Munster, Germany. After he received his PhD Schuth went to Minneapolis, USA for a Post Doc and to Santa Barbara as a visiting professor. In 1995 he became professor in Frankfurt, Germany. Since 1998 Schuth is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research. His research interests are in the area of crystallization processes and synthesis of catalyst materials. Even though Schuth is a very young scientist he is already well decorated with awards, e.g. Boehringer Ingelheim Award and Leibniz Award of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) Prof. Dr. Ing. Jens Weitkamp is professor at the Institute for Technical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart and German founding rector and vice president for academic affairs at the foreign German University in Cairo (GUC), Egypt. Weitkamp is author and editor of a variety of books as well as journal editor.
