Take a creative approach to problem-solving and reasoning skills! The theme of 'Is it Possible?' is deciding whether or not a particular mathematical object or situation is possible to create. There are four tasks: two of these are about number digits puzzles, one is about algebraic formulae and one about statistics. The curriculum content of this task is: properties of numbers (multiples, primes, square numbers, triangle numbers); manipulating, substituting into and factorising algebraic formulae; and mean, median, mode and range. There are many opportunities for problem solving. These involve exploring, generalising, reasoning, proving, including finding counter-examples.
