Description
Chronic rhinosinusitis is one of the most common healthcare complaints worldwide. Also in China, chronic rhinosinusitis is a major diagnosis in the otolaryngologic practice and accounts for a significant amount of morbidity. Recently, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and advances of rhinological research in China have undergone tremendous progress and great achievements have been made. In China, although endoscopic sinus surgery was popularized only during the late 1980s led by pioneers Dr. Demin Han and Dr. Geng Xu, it has quickly gained acceptance in the healthcare landscape and is now one of the most commonly performed procedures with widespread use. National standards of diagnosis and care in sinus disease and FESS have been established and updated to include the most current technological advancements and improve upon the understanding of the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis. This special issue presents the state of the art of FESS and related research by leading Chinese rhinologists and discusses the myriad of significant contributions that they have recently made.
