Chapter breakdown Training Session for Staff This training session introduces and clarifies the various forms of bullying experienced by young people both in and out of the school context. Staff are given opportunities to consider how bullying takes place between students, students and staff, between staff or by individuals and groups, face to face, indirectly or by using a range of cyberbullying methods. Staff are also encouraged to develop an Anti-Bullying Policy as part of the school's wider behaviour policy. This presentation details each of these measures in turn and provides participants with a framework for developing the policy and procedures in line with best practice. Training Session for Parents/Carers There is a focus in this training session on ways that schools can involve parents/carers, how parents/carers can report bullying and the ways in which the parents/carers of bullies and victims can be supported. This training session also outlines the aims, objectives and content of the student programme, with the opportunity for parents/carers to try out some of the activities. Training Session for Students This training session will provide students with the opportunity to define bullying, to clarify various types of bullying and to reflect on the role of the bystander. Students will also be given the opportunity to practise a range of assertiveness skills and strategies. Students are also encouraged to develop their own rules for ensuring that a non-aggressive school culture is fostered and maintained by all involved. The Student Programme The student programme is a comprehensive teaching and learning resource. It consists of ten sessions designed to highlight key issues surrounding bullying and methods to engage students in dealing with these issues.
